C. Suetonius

Born in 69 or 70 AD, known for his famous biographic collection called Life of Caesars, he wrote also two lexicons about Greek insults and Greek board games. In this last, he provided a detailed report of the Greek gaming traditions, their names and their rules.

Unfortunately, his work is now lost, apart from some fragments preserved by some Byzantine authors.

Most of them has been collected, reorganized and published in 1967 by the French philologist Jean Taillardat, Peri Balsphemion : Peri Paidion

Julius Pollux

Active in the 2nd century AD, he composed the Onomasticon, a thesaurus of Greek words written in a discursive style. In his books VII and IX he deals with some Greek board games. Unfortunately, his original work has been lost and the version we actually have is an epitome that dates to the IX century AD. Nevertheless, the information it containes prooved to be crucial for the partial reconstruction of some ancient board games and for their contexts of use.
